What is a gene?

What is a gene?

Genes are a unit of heredity and are the "instructions" that make up the blueprint of each individual.

These instructions are inherited from parent to child and can determine many of our physical mental, and social traits. These traits include height, hair colour, memory, communication skills and much more.

Each gene is made up of a nucleic acid called DNA, which translates genetic information necessary to sustain functions and life. There are 4 nucleobases that make up the nucleic acid of DNA: Adenine (A); Thymine (T); Guanine (G); and Cytosine (C).
